Breaking Through the Top 3 Barriers to Psychic Development

You might have heard this before: “Everyone has some degree of psychic ability” Did you then think, as I did, “Ok, so where’s mine?” I do believe that every person has latent psychic skills that can be developed and honed. However, many people who wish to develop these skills are met with a few stumbling blocks that prevent them from progressing and they eventually give up on their goals. Let’s take a look at 3 main stumbling blocks to psychic development.

The first stumbling block is a misunderstanding of psychic ability. Most people expect what they see in the movies: bright, colorful, photographically clear images and high definition sounds that tell a complete story. It has been my experience, however, that most psychics that are clairvoyant don’t have that kind of crystal clear experience. When I see something, it’s usually a brief flash, occasionally in color, and it’s often symbolic and requires a little research to find out the meaning behind it. I have had several discussions with many of my friends who are psychic and they tell me they have the same type of experience I do.

It is also important to know that clairvoyance is not the only psychic ability a person can have. Some people hear (clairaudience) things such as the voices of spirit guides; others feel (clairsentience) energies or detect danger through “gut feelings”. Some even smell etheric scents. Whatever your psychic strength is, start by developing it first and then move to others later, if you want to.

The second stumbling block to psychic development is an attempt to “chase the information”. This refers to the tendency so many of us have to try to “go get” the information we want. When we do this, we place a big road block between what we’re trying to learn and ourselves. The way to receive psychic information is to be relaxed and receptive. Rather than “going to get” the information, patiently wait for it to come to you. The reason so many psychics have prophetic dreams is because when they’re asleep, they are in a very deep state of relaxation and receptivity. If you know how to meditate, slip into a light meditative sate. This will greatly improve your ability to receive psychic information. If you don’t know how to meditate, don’t worry. Just be calm and relaxed and let whatever comes to your mind enter.

The third stumbling block to psychic development is trust. Because most people are expecting the information to take one form and often get something different, they dismiss what was received. The key to moving along the path of psychic development is to trust the impressions you get. As an example, I was working with my sister one time, trying to discover the cause of her headache. She often gets stress headaches and she wanted me to see if I could find the cause. I received an image of her house and couldn’t make sense of why I would be shown that. I was sure my mind was simply conjuring up this picture and it had no relevance. But, trusting what I was receiving, I asked her if anything was going on at home that might be stressing her and she said, “Yes, I’m incredibly stressed about getting the house cleaned up for the party this weekend.” Had I simply assumed I was making up the picture of her house because it wasn’t what I was expected to be the answer, I might not have found the problem.

Psychic development can be a very fun and rewarding journey as long as you approach it from a relaxed and open state of mind. Try not to force anything and don’t get discouraged when things don’t turn out the way you hoped. With time, you will trust your abilities more and more and this will lead you to greater improvement. STUDENTS AND SOCIAL SERVICE

We are born and brought up in society. From birth to death we go on receiving things from society. Social service is a way of giving back to society a tiny portion of what one has received from it.

Although it is the duty of each of us to do something by way of social service, students are best suited for social service because they are young, energetic, full of enthusiasm and fired with idealism and spirit of service.

There is no limit to the type of social service or work that youngsters can do. For example, students can undertake the work of teaching illiterate people to read and write. They can teach people habits of cleanliness and hygiene or can provide food, clothes and blankets to the poor and the needy. They can organize blood donation camps or provide first aid to the victims of accidents, and relief to the victims of natural calamities like flood, drought, fire and earthquake. Work can be started from the buildings wherein students live and can be extended gradually to cover their locality, village or town or even taluka and district. They should study the problems of the people and devise ways and means of solving them.

Students can take inspiration from great men and women like Florence Nightingale, the noble nurse called the Lady with the Lamp in the service of the poor; Albert Schweitzer who spent his life in Africa, Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross; Mahatma Gandhi who lived and died in the service of humanity; Baba Amte who has devoted his life to the service of lepers or Mother Teresa, the divine angel of the destitute.

If students devote their spare time to some or any of the social service programs, there will be a slow but sure transformation of the society whose members will be better educated, better fed and better looked after. There will be fewer tears and more cheers. In such a society everyone will be trying to make everyone rise happy and everyone will find himself made happy, for individual happiness depends upon social happiness.

You’ll find it extremely useful and telling to understand why you believe the things that you do. You will surely be surprised to realize some of the shaky ground you have formed your beliefs on.

The blatant fact is that the major portions contributing to the building of a belief system are based on illogical input! That’s right! Only 1 out of the 5 methods of creating your beliefs is based on logic.

The 5 main information sources feeding your beliefs are:

  1. Evidence
  2. Tradition
  3. Authority
  4. Association
  5. Revelation
  1. Evidence

    Evidence indicates causation of one thing for another. The ‘cut and dried’ quality of evidence appeals to the methodical and diagnostic part of your mind. Developing your belief system through this approach is very rationale and founded on the use of logical thinking.

    Two ways we gather evidence:

    1. Scientific enquiry supplies results from critically tested hypotheses to support evidence based believing.
    2. Your unique life experience of cause and affect. You might often experience a consistent result from your actions. For example:
      • If you drive a certain route at rush hour, you will be late.
      • Cooking for appreciative friends makes you feel great.
  2. Tradition
    The traditions perpetuated through generations and cultures are a key contributor in building your belief system. Familes are often overwhelmed with traditional ideas day in and day out when growing up. Therefore traditions can be relatively easy to adopt, without even assessing. It’s great to appreciate that traditions have served some cultures well. However it does not indicate they are essentially based in truth, nor necessarily have a legitimate place in your life.

    Many people adopt their main ‘global beliefs’ and some ‘topic specific beliefs’ through societal tradition. Family biases, social culture, and societal discrimination are all major factors in the formation of personal ideas about:

    • God and what spiritual understanding is correct
    • political theory and which party to vote for
    • ones own personal value
    • which sporting team to cheer for

    Reflecting on this, can you identify what role tradition has played in developing some of your beliefs?

  3. Authority
    Numerous beliefs are learned from people in positions of authority.

    It’s possible that these figures of power also fall in the category of tradition, as I’m sure you can picture. For example, parents usually stand up as a significant role of authority while growing up and they are daily passing traditions down to you.

    It’s also possible that those in positions of authority stand outside of tradition. Examples of some of those who influence your beliefs, could be:

    • a spiritual guide that claims to have a unique  direct line to ‘God’
    • a medic who claims that they absolutely sure that any ideas on health that are contrary with theirs, are rubbish
    • a university professor who you have looked up to
  4. Association
    What group are you part of?
    Whether you can be found with the ‘in crowd’ or hidden away with the ‘nerds’, you will be strengthening common beliefs that you share with the group. It is kind of like ‘you rub off on one another’.

    As you are regularly faced with special ways of thinking common to your crowd, you learn to ‘go with the flow’ and support the shared thinking.

  5. Revelation
    Here, the definition of revelation referred to is “the disclosure of information to man by a divine or supernatural agency”. The experience might be described as:a gut feeling… or seeing something in your imagination.

    Two main explanations offer insight on how this unseen delivery of knowledge occurs:

    1. Some say that the knowledge had previously been fed into your subconscious through external stimuli. It was just fizzing below the surface. When the correct trigger was hit, (likely some
      vague event), the info was brought to your conscious mind.
    2. Others think that perhaps it is due to a sixth sense of perception that we know little about. This extra sense is revealing unlike any other, baring new info in ways not yet measurable.

    Revelation can reveal itself at any time. You might be; busy in the office, in the shower, meditating on breaking waves. Where ever it may arrive, might be interesting to ponder. But, the really interesting question is, will it help to share this information?
