Ways To Watch Less TV

Television. Love it or hate it, we almost all watch it. Hours and hours of it
Quite a lot of people would prefer to watch less television if they could work out how to. Consciously or just as background noise and flicker.
There’s a reasonable chance that if I came up to you and asked you to tell me about the program you have just seen, you’d remember at least some of it. But yesterday’s television? Or last week? Errr. Your recall probably isn’t as good.
So how can you stop yourself turning into that couch potato?
Here are 5 simple tips and tricks to help you cut down the amount of television you watch.
1. Use the standby button
Eek! Actually turn off the television? In some households, the thing stays on 24 hours a day. But if you’re on your own and the television is really just a distraction in the background, turn the darn thing off.
2. Diarize with yourself to watch the important shows
There are probably a few television shows that you never want to miss. Maybe it’s Kiefer Sutherland saving the world (again) in 24. Or possibly there’s no way you want to miss the next instalment on how those desperate housewives are coping. Whatever your choices, it’s good. Keep watching those. We’re talking about cutting out all the other shows that you just watch because the broadcasters broadcast them.
3. Turn off the news
Another big issue for a lot of people. But nothing much really newsworthy actually happens and if it does, you’ll hear about it soon enough. Most of the time, watching the news rotate on television is just an excuse for wallowing in other people’s suffering. Cut those negative vibes from your life and reward yourself with lots of hours to do something nice instead.
4. Use that television recorder
Set the timer record for those “must watch” programs. And series link them. Then relax and watch them, but with your finger poised to fast forward through all the trailers and commercial breaks. This will cut your viewing time down dramatically, probably around a quarter to a third. Trust me, this is an easy and useful habit to get into.
5. Use hypnosis to help
Yes. This works a treat. Simply listen to a special hypnosis track to help you watch less television and you’ll quickly find your mind coming up with other things to do than sit and watch tv.
